2016 Update

The past year has been a much busier year for our club. Highlights were: 1) Re-establishing the Annual Grey Cup Stag in November, 2015; 2) the relocation of the Gyro Christmas Tree to the new Park Plaza location; 3) Creating a website and Facebook group page for the Kitimat Gyro Club; 4) the June BBQ at fellow Gyro Dave Lee’s; 5) the July 3rd Golf Scramble; and 6) applying to host the 2017 District IV Interim Convention in Kitimat, B.C. on the weekend of May 12, 2017.

President Mike Steponavicius and Secretary Doug Rumley attended the Nanaimo Installation on April 8-10, 2016.

The Kitimat Installation was held September 9-11th, 2016 and attended by District IV Governor Saul Hilchey and First Lady Alice, as well as Bob and Jean Kanngiesser from the Alberni’s Gyro Club. The weekend included the Friday evening gathering hosted by Mike and Reni Steponavicius, Saturday evening installation and Sunday moose milk breakfast at the Chalet Restaurant. At the Installation, incumbents Mike Steponavicius, Steve Revell, Joe Bruno, Doug Oleniuk and Doug Rumley were all reinstalled as President, Vice President, Past President, Treasurer and Secretary respectively, while Ken Minifie, Dave Lee, Mike Masch and Mike Prause were all re-installed as executive members by Governor Saul Hilchey.

The Kitimat Gyro Club will be well represented at the attended the District IV Convention in Port Alberni on September 30th – October 2nd, 2016.

The focus for the remainder of 2016 will be continued effort to attract new members and increase club exposure within the community, work on digitizing all club photo’s and historical information, holding the Annual Gyro Grey Cup Stag and preparing to host the 2017 District IV Interim Convention.
